Black And White Striped Bed Skirt – Soften the look of your bed with a classic bed skirt, with ruffles. Sometimes called a ruffled or gathered skirt, the style works with casual and formal rooms alike. Store-bought versions tend to skimp on fullness and length, and cloth selections are limited. Make your own ruffled skirt bed for a custom fit in the fabric of your choice. Measure the length and width of your bare mattress.
Measure from the top of the box spring on the floor to the finished hanging length. Cut material from the opaque linings 1 1/2 inches long and 1 inch wider than the mattress to make a platform for your black and white striped bed skirt. Sew two widths of the opaque linings together if the bed is wider than the material. Curve the lower corners of the platform to match the corners of the spring box at the foot of the bed. Place the platform fabric right side down.
Fold the top edge over 1/2 inch. Bend again to make a double fold. Pin the fold of pins. Machine-stitched along the length of the double fold, with a 1/4 inch seam allowance. Double the length of the mattress, and then add the width. Multiply the total by 2.5. Cut the full width of the fabric black and white striped bed skirt until the combined width is equal to the final total. Cut the pieces 2 1/2 inches longer than the finished hanging length.
