Egress window wells – You can buy manufactured window wells at your local home improvement store. Read the manufacturer’s instructions, as recommended installation varies slightly. Dig a hole in front of what will be the window egress location. Lowest good window frames in the hole. Mark the screw holes on the foundation and remove good window frame.
Drill pilot holes through the screw hole marks. The size of the masonry bit used to drill the holes depends on the diameter of the good window frame screws. Drill a bit deeper than the length of the wall anchors to use pilot holes. Press one wall anchor into each pilot hole. Wall anchor you use will depend on the diameter of the egress window wells sash screws.
Drive on a bead of silicone caulk along the window frame well-flanged ends. Lower the frame into the hole and line up the screw holes in the wall anchors. Ensure good window frame in place with the screws. Finish installation of your egress window. After installing window, pour 6 inches of pea gravel in the window well and around the outer frame edge. Spread it evenly with a metal rake. Backfill the window well’s outer edge with the soil you removed. Cover the egress window wells with an appropriate cover to keep moisture out of the well.
