Cement tile backsplash – Concrete walls of the shower (for example, cement blocks) can see impermeable and waterproof but in fact it’s neither. Cement is actually absorbing if it isn’t specially treated and isn’t the most attractive shower wall covering in any case. The good news is, the cement walls make an excellent base for tiles that need something strong and firm behind it. Make sure the cement tile backsplash is intact, clean and very dry before you start.

Instructions: Measure the first shower enclosure from page to page, and locate and mark the center. Draw a line vertically up the wall, from the floor to the top of the cement tile backsplash, using your level and pencil. Spread thinnest over the lower half of the wall with a notched trowel, covering everything from the floor about three meters.

Set the first plates in the mortar along the bottom, on one side of the vertical line. Put spacers between the tiles and floors to create a gap there. Hang the next course of tiles above the first, again starting at the midline and build the sides. Repeat, working your way up the wall line by line. Use the wet saw to cut out the tiles needed and cutting around the shower fixtures needed. Tile throughout the wall and the other walls.

Spread your grout over the newly hung tiles with grout float, starting at the top and work your way down. Wipe up the excess grout with a damp sponge flat. Allow the grout to dry for 24 hours. Run caulk lines along the edge of the tiled walls, where they meet the floor and each other. Let dense set 24 hours before using the shower.
